Win one of 12 budgies from top-name breeders for just £1

Best-in-Show---AD-WoanMAJOR WINNERS OF last year’s Budgerigar Society (BS) Club Show have given support once again to an eagerly anticipated raffle of exhibition budgerigars and birdkeeping essentials.

On June 1, Mid Essex BS’s online raffle goes live and for £1 you could win a budgerigar from the birdroom of 2016 Club Show champions Alec & Dave Woan, or a bird bred by Connor Hickman – who took best young bird the same year with a skyblue cock.

Additional birds have been donated by former Club Show winners S.&J. Gillan (2015) and Freakley & Ainley (2007- 2008). Guest of honour Geoff Capes has also put forward a bird, along with Ron Payne, one of the four confirmed show judges.

The raffle will be drawn at the club’s silver championship open show on September 10 at Bicknacre Memorial Hall in Bicknacre, and broadcast live on social media.

In total, there are 12 budgerigars to be raffled by 12 topnamed breeders; an Avi Fabrications metal stock cage; double breeders from F.W. Whitchurch Ltd; Avian Lighting LED light and dimmer sets; and seed from Bucktons and Countrywide Seed.

Sponsorship secretary Graham Paine told Cage & Aviary Birds: “Following the success of the 2016 raffle, the club decided this year to speak to more of the country’s top breeders, and we are overwhelmed and proud of the support given. The raffle now boasts birds bred by three BS Club Show winners, which is absolutely amazing.”

Money raised from the Countrywide Seed raffle (100 kilos of Champion Budgerigar Mix) will be presented to a club or member.

Mr Paine explained: “Similar to last year where we supported Worcestershire BS’s Mark Dewsbury appeal and generated more than £100 for the cause; this year we want to help towards another project or the wellbeing of a member’s birds.”

The club invites nominations via its website (www.midessex- budgerigar-society. co.uk) and Stephen Jones from Countrywide Seed will choose the winner.

Online raffle tickets can be bought up until 8pm the day before the show, but tickets can be bought at the venue on show day.
